Our School
Meet the Principal
Adam Bright
Welcome to Docklands Primary School.
We respectively acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work and learn, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to the Elders past and present and to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
Our school opened in 2021 to continue a tradition of learning and community-building that has flourished here for tens of thousands of years. It is my immense privilege to lead this community as the Founding Principal, and I am thankful for your interest in our school.
Our vision sets out our reason for being, and it incorporates two central goals. We exist to secure success for every child, and to grow great educators. These two elements of our vision are connected, and they drive us in all we do.
Securing success for every child
At Docklands Primary School, we hold an unyielding belief that all students can learn. We take responsibility for the engagement, progress and achievement of every student in our care, because this is our core work. We use an explicit approach to teach a knowledge-rich curriculum that is broad, stimulating and full of wonder. We set our sights high and are unapologetic about that; across all levels of our school, you will find students engaged in complex and fascinating curriculum that deepens thinking, broadens horizons and stretches imaginations. Through a knowledge- and language-rich curriculum, we aim to instil a love of learning that can propel every young person into life beyond primary school.
We are driven to secure the necessary foundations for success in learning. We know that core literacy and numeracy skills are the base for higher order thinking, reasoning, and critical engagement with the world. We teach all aspects of reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy explicitly, drawing on detailed and well-sequenced curricula to secure this essential knowledge. We carefully monitor and assess student learning, providing intervention in both literacy and numeracy for students who may struggle from time to time. Our intervention team works hand in hand with our teaching staff to provide wrap-around supports where they are needed most. We do not give up on any child.
Growing great educators
Like our students, our staff are always seeking to improve; as a community of teachers, leaders and education support staff, we are all bonded by a genuine love of learning. We are privileged to teach, and we know that the quality of our instruction makes the biggest in-school impact on student outcomes. We also know we are better when we work together, so we place importance on being collaborative in all we do.
Teachers and education support staff at Docklands Primary School are provided with a wide range of evidence-informed and embedded professional learning opportunities. We have a strong culture of professional improvement; it is not unusual to see teachers at Docklands Primary School sharing teaching strategies in a teacher-led workshop, or seeking feedback from one another through our Instructional Coaching program.
We attract great teachers who are curious about their practice, open to improvement, and ready to support a colleague with a problem. If you are looking to improve your teaching in a supportive environment – or you want to lead others to improve their practice – we’d love you to apply to work with us.
I am proud to lead a team of world class educators who lead by example in all that they do.
Prioritising wellbeing for all
Everyone has the right to feel safe and happy at school. We place a strong focus on wellbeing by establishing calm and settled environments in which everyone can learn. We teach a broad wellbeing curriculum, focusing on resilience and respectful relationships. We also develop wellbeing through a rich specialist curriculum, which incorporates Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music & Performing Arts, Science and Auslan. Our students benefit from a vibrant extra-curricular offering, which includes a range of lunchtime clubs and the choir. When you walk around our school, you will see happy children experiencing fun in learning and forming friendships to last a lifetime.
Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about our wonderful school, and I look forward to connecting with you.
